The secretary of the Chitrapat Sena, an umbrella organisation of the Shiv Sena, was fired at thrice by an unidentified bike-borne gunman in Film City, Goregaon east on Friday afternoon. Raju Shinde, who sustained bullet injuries to the stomach, back and hand, is being treated at Nanavati Hospital. The firing took place very close to a set where actor Amitabh Bachchan was shooting.
According to the police, Shinde, 54, was sitting outside a set owned by Balaji Telefilms Ltd. at 2 pm when he was fired at. “Shinde was sitting in the shadows. two men on a bike drove from behind and the pillion rider fired at him. The men then rode for another 200 meters before they were intercepted by a security guard. The men then got off the bike and ran into the forest. We are combing the forest to find them,” said Fateh Singh Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police, North region. Investigators from the Mumbai police crime branch are also making inquiries at film city.
Patil added that the pillion rider was wearing a helmet, making identification difficult. The police said that Shinde was first rushed to Life Line hospital in Goreagon, before being shifted to Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle. “One bullet hit Shinde in the stomach and two others in the back and the hand. He is in critical condition, but alive. Doctors will operate on him soon,” Patil added.
Bachchan, who was shooting close by, tweeted about the incident at 3.35 pm. “Okay !! Shooting at Film City .. and a gang war shootout 20 feet from where we are … !!1 dead .. cops all over ..”
A while later, he tweeted a correction: “T 1873 – Correction: in gang shoot out where I was shooting in Film City person shot at is NOT dead . He has been taken to hospital …”
