Sheena Bora reached out to her mother Indrani Mukerjea in an attempt to clear the air between them just about 45 days before she was killed. The duo had exchanged five emails between March 9 and 17, 2012, according to the chargesheet filed by the CBI, and Sheena said in her last mail she would try and meet Indrani on March 25. Sheena was dead exactly a month later.

At the beginning of the first email sent by Sheena from her Gmail account to Indrani at 7.17 pm on March 9, which is part of the chargesheet, Sheena said her perception of her mother had changed over the past one year.

Saying that she was bitter as a youngster that Indrani had deserted her and her brother Mekhail, Sheena wrote that “most of the reasons for which I have been upset with you while growing up are not all true”. She repeatedly wrote that she never tried to understand Indrani’s reasons for leaving her children, but that “many questions have been answered”, and that things were unwrapping for her now.

Sheena apologised to her mother for sending a series of “hurtful text messages” which she called “inappropriate and impulsive”. She added that she wasn’t a bad person and would not have done that to anyone, “specially you”. “Anger, heavy medication for hypertension, misinformation and misunderstandings took their toll on the situation. Whatever happened 3 years back shouldn’t have happened. Rahul did not send you any sms. Trust me. Wish I could change it all,” she wrote.
She did question Indrani, however, for cutting off financial help to her parents in Assam after Sheena and Rahul got engaged and went to Guwahati together. “Why are you pressurising them into keeping me away from home?” Sheena wrote, referring to her grandparents.

She also mentioned that after her engagement with Rahul, her grandparents had informed her that they would disinherit her from her will, “as a sign of their disapproval of her relationship with Rahul”. Sheena also wrote that her grandparents had forbidden her from contacting them for as long as she was in a relationship with Rahul.

She confessed to having been left confused whether Indrani was behind the threat of excommunication or her grandparents. “Is it all because of those text msgs? You should have either not given birth to me or NOT left me with your parents. Why didn’t you take me with you? What and where have all of this left me now?? All of this has left me really hurt and devastated once again,” the email reads.

Saying that she was “happy and safe with Rahul” and questioning Indrani for being upset because of that, Sheena wrote,“I am your daughter. I have some of you in me.. I will find my way through and be just fine.”

Towards the end of the email, she wrote, “Anyway, life is too short for holding grudges, telling lies and being upset about stuff. Let’s have a happy life without any lies and manipulation.”

Sheena also said she had written to Indrani to “clean my karma” and wished her happy life, ending the mail saying,“I would be lying if I say I don’t love you.” Indrani responded exactly a day later. At 7.21 pm on March 10, sounding happy that Sheena had “finally made contact”, asking her not to worry any more. “I have always loved you and will continue to love you no matter how angry we are at each other,” she wrote.

In her March 11 email, Sheena wrote back saying she did not expect Indrani to write to her but she felt better now.

According to the chargesheet, Indrani last wrote to Sheena on March 14 after she couldn’t reach her on her phone and also asked if she had the right number. Sheena replied on Saturday, March 17, 2012, reassuring her mother that she had the right number but that she had been too busy to chat. “I am working tomorrow as well.. so will try and catch up with you next Sunday. What else what else?,” her email reads.
