The senior college strike by the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (MFUCTO) is set to continue.
The teachers union has decided to continue the strike, already in its third week, and has alleged that the state government is indulging in doublespeak and distortion.
Rajesh Tope,Higher and Technical Education Minister, had announced earlier this month that the state cabinet has decided to revise the salaries of the striking college and university teachers. This had raised hopes of many that the matter would soon be resolved amicably. However, the letter dated July 24 from the Deputy Secretary of the department nullifies the momentum achieved in the first round of talks, said CR Sadasivan, president,MFUCTO.
MFUCTO alleged that ministry officials were persisting on their path of denying the Sixth Pay Commission package finalised by the HRD ministry and the University Grants Commission (UGC) and reneging on the assurances given during the first round of talks regarding non-applicability of NET/SET clauses to teachers appointed prior to November 1999,among other issues.
