As the city colleges declared their second merit list on Thursday evening, most of them claimed to have filled up 55 to 75 per cent of their seats in the first round of admissions to various degree courses. When compared with the first round, the cut offs in the second merit list for traditional courses have dropped by 5 to 10 per cent. For professional courses, they have reduced by 1 to 5 per cent.

Stating that a large number of students — both in-house and from other colleges — had queued up for admission in their college,Dr Kavita Rege, principal of Sathaye College said,“Every year we manage to fill up at least 60 per cent of our total seats. Even this year we will manage to fill 60-70 per cent seats by Friday.”

NM College Principal Dr Sunil Mantri said almost 75 per cent of the seats were taken at the end of the first round itself. “We may be able to complete admissions by the end of the second round,”

he said.

At KPB Hinduja College, seats for most subjects were already occupied by the end of the first round. “We have exhausted most seats in the first round itself and do not have seats in most categories. Seats in the remaining subjects will be taken in the second round,” said Dr Shiware.
