SEC seeks explanation from govt over civic chief’s extension

The State Election Commission has said it had sought explanation from the state chief secretary regarding the extension granted to BMC commissioner Subodh Kumar for three months.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has said it had sought explanation from the state chief secretary regarding the extension granted to BMC commissioner Subodh Kumar for three months. The commission said the government did not take its permission while granting the extension. Kumar,who was to retire on January 31,was granted extension till April 30. The SEC has to be contacted when a decision regarding transfer,appointment of an election-related officer. SEC commissioner Neela Satyanarayan said,“We have asked them to explain. They have not taken our permission.”

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will not be contesting from ward number 132 (Govandi) as they did not find a suitable candidate for the ward. The party released a list of 226 candidates for the BMC elections.
