Crime Branch officers interrogating Sandhya Singhs son Raghuveer said inquiries with him as well as with his friends and relatives have established that he is a habitual liar. His relatives allegedly told the police that he had few close friends due to his compulsive lying. Officials are now looking to probe each statement made by him during the course of probe and look for discrepancies which might prove fresh leads.
Raghuveer, who surrendered to the Crime Branch on Monday, first fell under suspicion when the Crime Branch found several contradictions in his statements. He had allegedly told different things to different people about Sandhyas whereabouts on the day she went missing, and later claimed that he had not said those things at all.
When he first met his girlfriend Shreya Verma in 2007,he told her that he was a lawyer from a reputed family in Indore and had come to Mumbai to set up his own law firm. He was infamous in his friend circle about his lying, said a Crime Branch officer.
The officer added that Raghuveers habit only worsened after he started abusing drugs in 2008,as he had to constantly lie to his family to keep his addiction a secret and take money from his parents.
Investigating officers added that since Tuesday evening,Raghuveer has been repeating only one sentence: I did not kill my mother.
Raghuveer readily talks about his drug abuse and accepts that relations were strained between him and Sandhya, but refuses to say anything about the crime. When we asked him about the contradictions in his statements,he said he had never said anything of the sort to anyone, an officer said.
Interestingly, while speaking to Newsline in August this year,Raghuveer had accepted that he had given different versions to different people on the day of Sandhyas disappearance, and that he had done so because he did not want to create undue panic.
