(Express Archives) Stating that there is sufficient prima facie material to proceed against the accused, a special court Monday took cognisance of the chargesheet filed in the case related to firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra on April 14.
The chargesheet in the case was filed by the Mumbai police earlier this month under sections including attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against six members of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
“After going through the chargesheet and documents filed… including sanction order… it reveals that there is sufficient prima facie material on record for proceeding against accused no.1 to 6…,” the court said, issuing notices to the accused, Vicky Gupta, Sagar Pal, Sonu Bishoi, Mohammed Rafiq and Harpal Singh. The sixth accused Anuj Thapan died in custody, allegedly by suicide.
The Mumbai police had filed a 1700-page chargesheet in the case, which included statements of the actor Salman Khan and his brother, Arbaaz, among others. On the morning of April 14, four rounds were fired outside the actor’s Bandra residence.
The crime branch later arrested six people from different states. According to the probe by the crime branch, the attack was carried out at the behest of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who has threatened actor Salman Khan in the past as well.
