The Western Railway (WR) administration has raised arms against those employees who are illegally subletting their quarters and indulging in illegal activities related to unauthorised occupation of railway quarters .
In a recent circular issued by Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Division of WR, such employees found involved in subletting / unauthorised occupation of railway quarters , will be transferred immediately.
In railways, a nexus of unauthorisedly subletting railway quarters has been going on for a long time. Despite of several crackdowns, it is still continuing. Now administration has decided to take strict action against them and transfer them out of Mumbai
In a recent raid jointly conducted by RPF and personnel of the engineering department of WR, at the railway colony near Mahalaxmi railway station last week, 26 quarters were found occupied in an unauthorized manner. A total of 107 non-railway people were found residing in the chawl. Interestingly, the DRM’s railway staff Dinesh Solanki was caught and booked for illegally subletting his quarter. On November 26, 2014, 92 quarters were checked , wherein 72 outsiders were found , 13 railway employees ( 11 male and 2 female ) illegally sublet their quarters. They were booked under section 147 and 145( B) of Railway Act and fine accrued from them was Rs.13,000.
According to Shailendra Kumar, DRM, Mumbai division, WR, “This is a disease and it should be cured. Because of this, our other employees, who are actually needy, are deprived of quarters.”
