RBI official’s wife falls to death

She was watering plants in the balcony of her house when she suddenly lost balance, slipped and fell, the police said.

The wife of a senior Reserve Bank of India (RBI) official fell to her death from her fifth-floor home at the RBI staff quarters on Napean Sea Road Saturday morning. She was watering plants in the balcony of her house when she suddenly lost balance, slipped and fell, the police said.

According to the police, Vijayashree Sistala, lived in the Vasant Vihar building with her husband, son and daughter

The incident took place between 9.05am and 9.10 am Saturday when Sistala’s husband was in the bath. “She leaned ahead to water the plants and in the process, lost her balance and fell forwards into a protective net. But the net couldn’t take her weight and she hit the ground,” said an officer attached with the Malabar Hill police station. The net was there to ward off pigeons.

The officer said residents of the building rushed Sistala to J J Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. After a call was placed to the Malabar Hill police station to report the incident, the police registered a case of accidental death.
