The Virar police are on the lookout for a school teacher who allegedly tried to rape a 12-year-old hearing impaired and mute girl.
The accused and the victim used to stay in the same building. The incident happened on Wednesday evening when the girl had gone to the house of the accused. The parents and neighbours thrashed the accused but were hesitant to approach the police. A formal complaint was finally filed at the Agashe Police Chowki on Thursday afternoon. The accused is absconding. Ravindra Dubey who worked as a temporary teacher at St Xaviers School stayed in the same building in
J P Nagar,Virar West,as the girl and her family. Dubey had come to stay in the building a year and half back. He was fond of the girl and would often play with her and no one suspected anything amiss, said police sub-inspector Suresh Manore from Agashe police chowki. On Wednesday Dubey called the girl to his flat and allegedly began fondling her. When he tried to rape her,the girl panicked and ran away. Using gestures, the girl told her parents about the incident, he added.
When the parents approached us,they were hesitant to pursue the case as they feared that it would entail a lot of visits to the police station and loss of time and money. However,we convinced them. Medical examination of the girl revealed that she had no internal or external injuries. We booked Dubey for attempt to rape. If the parents had approached us sooner,we would have arrested him from the spot. Because of the delay,Dubey got a chance to flee and his house is empty now, said Manore.
