Ramabai firing: Court adjourns case to April 6

Amid the confusion created by a battery of lawyers,who were closely tracking the infamous Ramabai Nagar firing case,a sessions court on Monday adjourned the pronouncement of the judgment.

Amid the confusion created by a battery of lawyers,who were closely tracking the infamous Ramabai Nagar firing case,a sessions court on Monday adjourned the pronouncement of the judgment. Sessions Judge S Y Kulkarni adjourned the case till April 6 after defence lawyer Madhukar Pawar informed the court about an application made by the witnesses and also the accused in a counter case urging the case should be transferred to the same court.

One of the lawyers appearing for the accused in the counter case has filed an application which the prosecution had no clue about,” Special Public Prosecutor Vijay Pradhan told the court.

“However,the court said that until a decision was taken on the application,judgment could not be pronounced.

According to the prosecution,dismissed SRPF officer Manohar Kadam had indiscriminately opened fire at a mob gathered following a desecration of a statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The platoon on Kadam’s order had fired at the mob killing 10 people and seriously injuring 26 people. However,11 out of the several injured have been booked for rioting and attempt to murder.

According to the Justice S D Gundewar Commission,Kadam had resorted to firing without receiving any orders from the seniors. The commission also said that the firing was “unwarranted,unjustified,and indiscriminate”.
