It rained surprises in the city on Friday, literally. Mumbaikars can continue to revel in the unseasonal shower they woke up to, with IMD forecasting light rain and thunder showers for the next two days.
After predicting a gradual increase in temperature as summer approaches, the rain on Friday morning came as a surprise to the IMD officials. “The local activity of pre-monsoon rain is unusual. The temperature was a bit high, which, along with the increasing moisture, caused instability in the weather. Normally, the city experiences pre-monsoon showers between March and April but this time, they are early by a few weeks,” an IMD official said, adding rain is expected for another two days.
While the observatory at Colaba recorded small amount of rainfall, the one at Santacruz recorded 10 mm of rainfall. Rainfall was reported in the suburbs, including Borivli, Dombivli, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The maximum temperatures at Colaba and Santacruz were reported to be 33.6 degrees Celsius and 32.9 degrees Celsius respectively. Minimum temperatures were 25.2 degrees Celsius and 25.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
