Rahul had earlier addressed a public meeting in Dharavi, where he had reiterated the Congress’s poll promise of a caste census and an annual Rs 1 lakh sum for poor women.
In an apparent jibe at the Dharavi redevelopment project being awarded to the Adani group, he said, “Dharavi is yours and should remain yours. Your skills should be honoured and this place should become a manufacturing hub of the country.”
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra commenced from Manipur on January 14 and entered Mumbai on Saturday. Rahul will undertake a Nyay Sankalp Padyatra from Mumbai’s Mani Bhavan to August Kranti Maidan on Sunday.
Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar’s office said eminent personalities from cultural and social fields will join Rahul in the padyatra. After that, Rahul will interact with the participants at Tejpal Hall near the August Kranti Maidan.
Mani Bhavan was the home of Mahatma Gandhi whenever he was in Mumbai, while the Congress was founded on December 28, 1885 at the Tejpal Hall. August Kranti Maidan was the place from where the ‘Quit India Movement’ was launched in 1942.
On Sunday, the opposition INDIA bloc will hold a rally in a show of strength. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav are scheduled to take part in the event.
