The Bombay High Court Thursday directed Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar to publish appeals in “leading newspapers with large circulation” to inform party members not to put up illegal hoardings across the city, after such appeals were published in smaller newspapers earlier.
A division bench of Justices A S Oka and Revati Mohite Dere, while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO seeking removal of all illegal banners and hoardings, issued a show-cause notice to Shelar and MNS chief Raj Thackeray including office bearers of three parties on why contempt should not be initiated against them.
The court also issued show-cause notice to senior MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar, Mahahrashtra BJP office bearer Mukund Kulkarni and NCP’s Shivajirao Garje as they had given undertakings to the court that neither they nor any of their party workers would put up hoardings or banners without permission from requisite authorities.
An affidavit was filed by Shelar Thursday informing the court that he has issued a circular and public appeals to all the party workers asking them not to display any hoardings, posters and banners without permission from the competent authority.
