The Versova police have arrested a small-time producer on a complaint lodged by a struggling actress accusing him of rape.

The Versova police have arrested a small-time producer on a complaint lodged by a struggling actress accusing him of rape. Ram Kumar Kumawat (32) was held on Saturday night from his Andheri residence. The victim hails from Kolkata and has been staying in the city for three years.

Deputy Commissioner of Police KMM Prasanna said the victim was introduced to Kumawat by a mutual friend. On Monday she had gone to Kumawats office at MHADA Colony,Andheri,for an audition. On July 22 the victim called Kumawat to ask if there was any role for her. She went to his office in the afternoon where he was alone. He tried to coax her into having sex with him after promising that he would make her famous and eventually raped her.

However,after the incident when Kumawat refused to entertain her,she approached the Versova police and lodged a complaint.
