Probe finds cops guilty of attending gangster’s party

The probe initiated against the five policemen suspended in the first week of January for allegedly attending a Christmas party hosted by Chhota Rajan aides,has found the policemen guilty.

The probe initiated against the five policemen suspended in the first week of January for allegedly attending a Christmas party hosted by Chhota Rajan aides,has found the policemen guilty. Formal departmental proceedings will now be initiated against the policemen.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Milind Bharambe,who had been asked to probe the allegations,submitted his report to Mumbai Police Commissioner D Sivanandhan around two weeks ago,stating that it had been established that the five policemen had indeed attended the party.

The policemen — DCP (Special Branch 1) V N Salve,Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Prakash Wani,Senior Police Inspector (Chembur) Ramesh Khakale,Assistant Police Inspector (Anti Extortion Cell) Nivrutti Kolhatkar,and police constable Rajendra Ghorpade— have already been suspended for attending the party.

The party was held on December 25 at the Chembur gymkhana,and was hosted by a man named Paulson Joseph. Close aides of Rajan including D K Rao,Farid Tanasha and Sunil Poddar were guests at the party.

The Mumbai Police have 355 incriminating photographs of the party and the policemen in attendance,as well as CCTV footage from the club.
