Police seek permission for brain-mapping, narco, polygraph tests
Sources said GRP claimed that Chetan Singh did not cooperate in the investigation during the recreation of the crime scene and is trying to dodge the investigation

Police seek permission for brain-mapping, narco, polygraph tests

The Government Railway Police (GRP) has moved an application before the Borivali magistrate court seeking permission to perform three scientific analysis tests (brain-mapping, narco-analysis and polygraph tests) on RPF constable Chetan Singh, who allegedly killed his senior officer and three passengers on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express on July 31.
Sources said that GRP claimed that Singh did not cooperate in the investigation during the recreation of the crime scene and is trying to dodge the investigation. Hence, his scientific tests would help yield information that would help police collect strong evidence and build a watertight case.
These scientific tests would also help police identify individuals or organisations, if any, that have influenced Singh’s mind.
The results of these tests cannot be used directly as evidence against the accused person in court, but the investigators can use the extracted information to give directions to the investigation and collect evidence, said a police source.
The defence has opposed the police’s application on permission for Singh’s scientific tests. Singh’s counsel, advocate Amit Mishra,
said the accused is cooperating in the investigation. “The accused had been in police custody for the past 11 days. Why these formalities had not been done till now? What will be the effect on the health of the accused,” Mishra submitted in the court.
“We are making sure that every aspect of the entire case is thoroughly probed and as much strong evidence as possible is collected against Singh for his heinous crime,” said a GRP official, wishing not to be named.

Since brain-mapping, narco-analysis and polygraph tests can be performed on a crime suspect only after securing the person’s mandatory consent, the court on Thursday adjourned the hearing to Friday to know the accused person’s stand on the GRP’s application.
Singh has been booked on charges of murder, promoting enmity between two communities, and kidnapping. He is in police custody till August 11.
He will be produced in Borivali court on Friday.
