AN ANONYMOUS call to the east region control room from locals at Chunabhatti Monday alleged there was a “rave party” at the bungalow of a retired deputy commissioner of police (DCP). When the police reached the spot, they found a group of teenagers celebrating a birthday.
At 3.30 am,Radheshyam Agarwal,a senior police inspector at the Shivaji Nagar police who also holds the additional charge of Chunabhatti police station, got a call on his wireless reporting an alleged rave party at a bungalow on Lal Dongar road in Sindhi Society.
On reaching the spot, the police found that the name displayed in front of the bungalow belonged to Vasant Kamble,a retired DCP from CID.
Upon entering the premises, they found four boys and five girls, all aged between 16-18 years, partying without any adult supervision. “We detained the teenagers and brought them to the police station,” said Agarwal. According to the police, the teenagers belong to affluent families.
Police said that the bungalow keys had been handed over to the boys by a friend, identified as Nikesh Patil, currently in Jaipur. Patil is a distant relative of the retired DCP,who is also out of the city.
“When we spoke to the teenagers, they told us they had become friends via a social networking website and were celebrating the birthday of one of the girls,” said Agarwal.
After making a dairy entry, the police called the parents of the teenagers to pick them up,but have detained two of the boys for further enquiry as they had been handed the keys. They are waiting for Patil to return from Jaipur to question him on why the teenagers were allowed to enter the premises without supervision.
“We will inquire with the retired DCP as well,” said Krishna Prakash, additional commissioner of police (south region),who is holding additional charge of the east region.
