The deadline to sign up for crop insurance has been extended for three days, after farmers complained of technical glitches in online registration. The Centre agreed to extend the deadline, following the state government’s request so as to accommodate a larger number of farmers.
“The last date for registration was Monday, July 31. Now it is open till Thursday,” State Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde said on Monday.
The State Agriculture Minister said, “In the last 24 hours alone, 7.20 lakh farmers signed up for insurance.” The response from farmers is overwhelming. But there are technical issues in rural areas, as servers are down, and at some places there is connectivity issue.
According to Munde, “Till date, 1.50 crore farmers in Maharashtra have enrolled themselves in the PM crop insurance scheme by paying a nominal fee Re 1. They have conveyed their participation.”
