A 58-year-old freelance photojournalist was found dead at his Dadar residence Saturday morning.

Shivaji Park police said Gajanan Ghurye stayed with his wife and daughter in a three-bedroom flat. He was a stringer with a national news channel and also freelanced as a photographer.

Police said Ghurye had dinner with family Friday night and then went to sleep in one of the bedrooms.

“Ghurye’s wife Chitra woke up around 7.15 am Saturday and went to his bedroom to check on him,” said an officer. She found him hanging from the ceiling fan.

DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni (Zone V) said: “No suicide note has been found. Ghurye had been suffering from several ailments and was reportedly depressed because of this.” Police have registered an accidental death report. “A probe is on,” said an officer.
