Anil Raut,a 28-year-old Pune resident who knocked down and injured two police constables on Pedder Road on Monday while allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol,was granted bail on Tuesday,police said. Raut has returned to Pune.
Around 1.30 am on Monday,Raut,a businessman,was returning home after a drive around Marine Drive with a friend when he allegedly did not heed signals to stop at a nakabandi at Gamadiya Junction on Pedder Road. Police said he hit constable Shyamsunder Nikam and rammed a Hyundai i20 car that had stopped for a check before hitting police naik Madhukar Shingane. The two cops were taken to Bombay Hospital and later discharged.
Rauts blood sample has been sent to Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory. Raut received bail at Girgaum Court on a bond of Rs. 15,000, said Inspector Sunil Kamble.
Meanwhile,Harshvardhan Shinde,owner of the i20 car,said he would ask Raut to pay for the damage to the car.
