Sharad Pawar comments on resignation of Dhananjay Munde amidst ongoing investigation into Massajog sarpanch murder. (File Photo)Amid demands of resignation of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Minister Dhananjay Munde, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday said that anyone with self-respect would have resigned by now.
“I have been to that village (Massajog). Anyone with self-respect would have quit from the post after witnessing the sentiments of the people of that village. But some still chose to remain on the post, despite protests all over the state,” said Pawar, when asked about government’s reluctance to accept the resignation of Munde.
Munde’s close aide Walmik Karad is arrested in a case linked to the murder of Beed district’s Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. Opposition and some members of ruling side have been demanding Munde’s resignation for the fair probe in this case, despite which the government has decided to not go ahead with it.
Pawar said he has no knowledge about the ongoing probe, but in the past those who faced the allegations had to resign. “Those who faced the allegations resigned and then the inquiry took place…I don’t think that these people and morality have any relation left whatsoever,” said Pawar.
When asked about resignation of another NCP leader and Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate facing the jail term of two years, Pawar said, “We as an opposition will have to think about it (about the situation). What is happening in the state is not good.”
Both Munde and Kokate have come under scanner with opposition demanding their removal from the state cabinet.
