Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik was admitted to Jaslok Hospital on Wednesday morning after he complained of chest discomfort. Hospital sources confirmed that Patnaik has suffered a heart attack soon after which he underwent angioplasty.
He was admitted to the hospital at around 9 am today. An ECG and angiography was done soon after and followed by an angioplasty. A stent was placed in his right coronary artery. He is stable now and is in the intensive care unit. He will continue to be under observation for at least a few more days before being discharged, said a senior official from Jaslok Hospital. Patnaik was promoted on August 24 as Director General,Maharashtra State Security Corporation.
While Home Minister RR Patil said it was a routine transfer and promotion, there had been political pressure on the state government to transfer him after his alleged mishandling of the August 11 Azad Maidan riots.
