Patil shines on day one

Left arm spinner Mahesh Patil of Gavaskar XI shines on day one of the Varroc Cup U-14 selection cricket tournament organized by Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation at Oval maidan. His five for 69 helped his side restrict Shastri XI for a modest 266 runs. Patil splendid effort was supported from off spinner Ruchit Shah (3/70) and left arm medium pacer Aftab Ansari (2/27).

Earlier,Shastri XI elected to bat after winning the toss with number three batsman Mehtab Ansari (62) playing key role in architect Shashtri’s XI innings. He first added 65 runs for the third wicket with Suyash Godbole (25) and later was uinvolved in 49 runs stand for the fifth wicket with Shreyas Dalvi (69). At stumps,Gavaskar XI were 6 for 1 as Suraj Patel got the opener Nishant Mane’s wicket.

In another match at Bombay Gymkhana,Vengsarkar XI,who chose to bat after winning the toss were bundled out in paltry 102 runs against Tendulkar XI. Aman Farooqui (35) and Hashir Dafedar (24) added 57 runs for the fourth wicket before team surrendered quickly. Medium pacer Mukul Sardar (3/15),off spinner Aquib Mukri (2/33) and left arm spinner Atharva Ankolekar (2/21) tight line helped his side restrict Vengsarkar XI. In reply Bhupen Lalwani (batting 53) and Rishikesh Padwal (41) put together 77 runs for second wicket to give solid start to Tendulkar XI. Before stumps were drawn,Tendulkar XI were 131/3 at the end of the first day’s play.
