The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday extended the deadline to submit objections on voters’ list for the municipal corporation polls by one week, after the Opposition parities sought more time for the same.

As per the new timetable, the earlier deadline of November 27 announced to submit objections will now be changed to December 3. The earlier deadline of December 5 to publish final voters’ list will now be December 10.

All major Opposition parties including Shiv Sena (UBT), Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Congress had written to the SEC demanding the extension of the deadline.

A delegation of Sena UBT and MNS held a meeting with State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare on Monday demanding the extension of the deadline by 21 days.

The Congress on Tuesday submitted a letter demanding 15 more days for the same.

“The draft voter list for the municipal elections in the state was published on November 20, and a deadline of November 27, has been given for receiving objections and suggestions on these lists. In many municipal corporations, there is a need to extend the deadline for receiving objections and suggestions on the draft voter lists, and the deadline of just 7 days is very short,” said the letter signed by

Maharashtra Congress Chief Harshvardhan Sapkal, Congress Legislative party leader Vijay Wadettiwar and party group leader in legislative council Satej Patil.
