One killed, six injured in cylinder blast at Poisar chawl

The fire brigade had pressed one fire engine and a water tanker into service, officials said.

ONE person was killed and six others were injured in a twin-cylinder blast at a chawl in Poisar on Tuesday morning, police said.

According to officials from the disaster management department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the blast was triggered by a gas leakage in the ground floor of the ground plus two structure in Biharitekari at 6.30 am. The fire spread to the first floor.

Officers from Kandivali have identified the deceased as Krushnakant Jha (45), a labourer, who died before admission into hospital.

The fire brigade had pressed one fire engine and a water tanker into service, officials said.

“Of the six injured, the condition of two is critical. They have been admitted to the civic-run Shatabdi hospital. Regarding the death of Jha, we have registered a case of accidental death,” said a police officer with the Kandivali police.
