A sweeper employed at a school in Trombay has been arrested for allegedly touching a four-year-old student inappropriately on the school premises.
The accused, who was arrested on Friday under Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act, is currently in police custody. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 6) Shahaji Umap said, “The accused was employed as a sweeper in the school. He was arrested based on a complaint filed by the girl’s parents.”
A police officer said the incident took place in the school on Friday. “The girl was on her way to the washroom when she slipped. The accused, under the pretext of helping her get up, touched her inappropriately,” the officer added.
When she reached home, the girl told her mother about the incident, following which, the family informed the school authorities.
The parents also alerted the police, and the sweeper was booked.
“The sweeper was produced before the court and remanded in police custody. We are interrogating him to find out if he has committed similar crimes in the past,” the officer said.
