A 27-year-old man was reportedly killed and two men injured on Tuesday morning after the motorbike they were travelling on crashed into a metal barricade near Currey Road railway station.
The police said the deceased was celebrating his birthday on Tuesday. He was heading to South Mumbai with his younger brother and friend around 5 am,when the mishap occurred. The police said Rajshekhar Gangaram Bathullah (29) was riding the bike,with brothers Ranjit Valmiki (27) and Sonu Valmiki (24) riding pillion.
All three are residents of Sathaye Chawl,located near Gurunanak Hospital in Bandra East. The police said they left their homes after 4 am to celebrate Ranjits birthday.
Rajshekhar lost control of the bike while negotiating a steep curve before Currey Road Bridge. They skidded for a few metres before colliding with a metal barricade at the corner of the road, said an officer of Kalachowkie police station.
All three were rushed to KEM Hospital with serious head injuries and multiple fractures. Ranjit was pronounced dead upon admission. Rajshekhar has been charged with rash and negligent driving, the police said.
