Two collapses, one of a wall and the other of a tree, killed a man each on P DMello Road on Tuesday.
A large,full-grown jamun tree got uprooted and collapsed on a moving Sumo, crushing the vehicle and killing the driver. The tree,on the compound of the General Post Office near CST,collapsed around 10 am on Tuesday following heavy rainfall since Monday night.
The trees branches had spread wide and had not been pruned for some time, said a peon in the GPO. Along with the vehicle,it damaged a portion of the compound wall of GPO. The fire brigade struggled to retrieve 37-year-old Rahim Sheikhs body from the mangled car. They rushed him to St George Hospital where he was declared dead.
A labourer died when part of the dilapidated Dhan Mansion collapsed on him. Sagar Vishwas,22,was working when he was killed. Another labourer,Rajkumar Gurane,26,was severely injured.
The building,a cessed one,was being partly demolished and partly repaired by MHADA. It is on MbPT land and housed a BMC dispensary,an education office and other offices.
As the incident happened before office hours, there was nobody inside the building or somebody could have been hurt, said Arvind who worked at a stall nearby.
Gurane was injured in the neck and back and has been admitted to St George Hospital.
