A 56-year-old photographer from New Zealand allegedly committed suicide by jumping off his 17th floor room at Taj Lands End in Bandra late Monday night.
The deceased,John Richard Brimley, was suffering from depression and is believed to have been undergoing treatment, said police.
His friends and colleagues at the hotel said he was depressed over family matters. The photographers were staying in different rooms of the hotel. A doctor told us that Brimley was an insomniac and regularly consumed sleeping pills. He had recently taken to anti-depressants, said a police official.
According to Bandra police,Brimley arrived in the city on May 9 as part of a team of 25 photographers for a Disney photo shoot. Police are still probing all angles as no suicide note was found on his body or in his room.
We have informed Brimleys family in New Zealand. They are on their way to Mumbai. We have also informed the New Zealand embassy, said Pratap Dighavkar,DCP. Brimleys body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem.
