The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Monday moved the Bombay High Court seeking permission to hold a Marathi Food Festival at Shivaji Park from May 3 to 10.

The MNS moved the court after it was refused permission by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The civic body turned down the request on the grounds that the area had been declared a silence zone in May 2010 after a High Court order.

The petition was filed by Sandip Deshpande, the president of the Dadar division of the party. According to the plea, the event is to be held as part of the Maharashtra Day celebrations. The case will be heard on April 19.

In January, the party had approached the court seeking permission to hold an election rally in the view of the civic elections at the same venue. However, the demand was rejected by the court on February 3,noting that if it grants permission to one party,it would have to take the same position with respect to other parties too.
