The Finance Deparment headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is yet to reimburse two state-run corporations the Other Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (OBCFDC) headed by PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbals protege Kailas Kamod and the Vasantrao Naik Vimukta Jati and Nomadic Tribes Development Corporation (VNVJNTDC) headed by Supriya Sules aide Laxman Mane that had, together, waived loans to the tune of Rs 77.97 crore on the eve of the 2009 Assembly election.
The delay in reimbursing the two corporations has prompted Minister for Social Justice Shivajirao Moghe (Congress) to write letters to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, urging them to release the funds immediately.
Injustice has been committed on these two corporations, Moghe wrote on August 25,pointing out that as per the governments decision on March 31,2008,it was decided to waive loans given by six backward class corporations, including these ones, but loans waived by the other four corporations has been reimbursed fully.
The pace of functioning of these two corporations has come down because of this… It is not possible for them to distribute loans to the needy beneficiaries, he wrote,This is a kind of discrimination.
The OBCFDC had waived loans to the tune of Rs 78.85 crore, but the government has paid only Rs 15.49 crore and is yet to pay Rs 63.36 crore. The VNVJNTDC had waived loans to the tune of Rs 29.91 crore but was reimbursed Rs 15.30 crore and the remaining amount of Rs 14.61 crore is yet to be paid.
The OBCFDC is under the control of Bhujbal who had invited the wrath of the powerful Maratha lobby within the NCP during the 2009 polls for securing a Lok Sabha ticket for his nephew Sameer from Nashik and an Assembly ticket for his son Pankaj from Nandgaon (Nashik).
However, despite hostile propaganda,Bhujbal not only got re-elected from Yeola (Nashik) to the Assembly but also managed to ensure the victory of Sameer and Pankaj. Bhujbals protege Kamod, who has been heading the corporation,is also a leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad a social outfit founded by Bhujbal for the OBCs.
The VNVJNTDC has been headed by Mane, who has been helping out Supriya Sule in her endeavour to educate students of nomadic and denotified tribes. Mane who shot into prominence with his autobiography Upara (outsider) has been assisting Sule in running ashram schools and taking up other social and educational activities.
Sule and Ajit Pawar daughter and nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar are considered to be rivals for his political legacy. The delay in paying the two corporations has raised eyebrows in political circles.
