Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta clarifies doubts regarding the new open place policy
Will weddings be allowed on open space grounds?
The policy clearly states that no commercial activity will be allowed on the playgrounds and a certain number of days for hosting weddings on recreation grounds have been specified.
According to the current Development Control Regulations, 15% of the recreation grounds can be constructed upon. Doesn’t this stand in conflict with the open spaces policy, which does not allow any construction apart from building toilets?
The new DCR in the new Development Plan, which will be out in a couple of months, states that no construction will be permitted on open spaces (RG/PG). No one has applied and we will not allow any construction on the grounds.
Why are local residents not involved in the maintenance of the open spaces?
Local residents will not be overlooked. The policy mentions that the nominated members of the committee monitoring the maintenance of the plots will be local residents.
