Neelam Gorhe elevated to cabinet minister rank
Previously associated with Shiv Sena UBT, Neelam Gorhe joined CM Eknath Shinde’s faction of Shiv Sena in July 2023.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday elevated deputy chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Dr Neelam Gorhe, to the rank of Cabinet Minister.
A leader of the Shiv Sena faction led by Shinde, Gorhe has been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council since 2002 and is serving her fourth term at present. Since 2019, is the deputy chairperson.
The position of chairperson has been vacant since 2022, and although Gorhe has been seeking the role, the election for this position has not yet been conducted.
Previously associated with Shiv Sena UBT, Gorhe joined CM Eknath Shinde’s faction of Shiv Sena in July 2023.
Following her switch, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which holds a majority in the upper house, has been pressing for the election of a new chairperson and for Gorhe’s removal as deputy chairperson. A removal notice has been submitted by Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve.
