Union Home Minister P Chidambaram expressed concern over the Naxal situation in Gadchiroli, besides reviewing the “progress” made in July 13 Mumbai blasts probe.

He said though violence in the Naxal-affected areas had reduced significantly in 2011,it was still at “unacceptably high” levels. Though the government had pumped in forces, created police stations and separate districts and provided helicopters,Gadchiroli remains a “matter of concern.” He said he had urged Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to pay attention to the matter.

Comparing the Delhi High Court blast and 13/7 blasts,he said three persons had been arrested in the Delhi case and the police were hunting for three others. “We haven’t been able to make similar progress in the Mumbai case.”

He said these incidents showed that terror modules continued to operate in states while 18 terror modules were neutralised over the past year. “The bomb blasts in Mumbai and New Delhi were a stern reminder that terrorist modules continue to be active in the country. It has been a satisfactory year. Capacity building will remain in focus for two-three years.”
