DAYS after killing three Naxals in an encounter in Sironcha tehsil, Gadchiroli police on Wednesday killed at least one more in Godmeta hills of Etapalli tehsil. “The encounter happened when our C-60 commando parties were searching the thickly-forested hills during an intelligence-based operation around noon. After a gun battle for at least 30 minutes, Naxals managed to flee, leaving behind a dead male colleague and 12-bore gun,” Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh told The Indian Express.
The identity of the deceased Naxal, who was part of a group of at least 15 Naxals, is yet to be established. A few days ago, the Gadchiroli police and Greyhounds elite force of Telangana police had together carried out an operation in the Vyankatapur area of Sironcha tehsil, killing three very senior Naxals from Telangana.
With this latest Naxal casualty, the total number of Naxalites killed in encounters with police in the district this year has gone up to nine. Five of these were women cadres
