Nagpur violence: Ensure smaller disputes not allowed to flare up, maintain police presence on roads, tells Maha DGP to cops

IN THE light of violence in Nagpur on Monday night, Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla held a meeting with district SPs, Inspectors General and Police Commissioners across the state via video conferencing, asking them to take even small instances that could lead to strife seriously and nip such incidents in the bud.
The state police chief also asked police personnel to ensure that more police are visible on the streets and proper bandobast is carried out so that anti-social elements are kept in check.

An IPS officer who attended the meeting said that usually the DGP talks to officers across the state every week to check on factors like implementation of the new crime laws and other administrative matters.
“This time around, in light of demands for removal of Aurangzeb’s grave leading to protests in various parts of the state, we were told to ensure that proper bandobast is provided and prevent anything that could lead to communal tensions,” the official said.
“Further, she asked us to ensure that any local disputes should quickly be settled so as to ensure that it does not flare up into a major crisis or exploited by motivated parties. She has also asked for extensive police presence on the roads so that it deters anti-social elements,” the official said.
