Mumbai: Woman killed as tempo driver dashes into 6 people in Ghatkopar west
Police said that the driver told them he suffered from an epileptic fit, due to which the accident took place

(Representative image) A 35-year-old woman was killed on the spot while five others were injured after a tempo driver lost control over the vehicle and dashed into them at the fish market in Chirag Nagar area in Ghatkopar west on Friday evening.
According to police, the tempo driver was delivering cold drinks to a shop in Ghatkopar when the incident took place. The tempo is owned by a Dombivli-based person, for whom the accused driver was working.
“Prima facie, it appears that the accused lost control of the steering plus the road on which the accident took place is narrow,” said a police officer.
Police have taken the driver, Uttam Kharat (25), in their custody and will produce him before a court on Saturday. The police are checking if he was under the influence of alcohol.

The victims were rushed to Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar for treatment. The deceased woman has been identified as Preety Patel, a resident of Parsiwadi in Ghatkopar, who was declared brought dead on arrival.
Reshma Shaikh, a 23-year-old woman, sustained a fracture in her left tibia and was admitted to the women’s orthopaedic ward. Mahrufa Shaikh (27) received a blunt trauma to the chest and was admitted to the women’s surgical ward.
Taufa Shaikh, a 38-year-old woman with a cut laceration wound (CLW) on her upper lip, refused hospital admission and received treatment in the outpatient department.
Arbaz Shaikh (23) sustained a blunt trauma to his left lower limb and was admitted to the male surgical ward. Lastly, 28-year-old Meharam Shaikh experienced a blunt trauma to his left shoulder and foot and was admitted to the male orthopaedic ward.
