A three-month pregnant woman, a doctor at Sion Hospital, hung herself in the bedroom of her Wadala T T apartment on Sunday night after a ‘squabble’ with her husband, police said. The woman, Ashwini Shenadarkar (29), reportedly took her life while three of her family members, including her husband, were in the living room.
“According to the family, there was a minor disagreement between the husband and the wife after which Shenadarkar left the living room and went to the bedroom. Later, the family broke open the bedroom door and found her hanging,” said a police officer with Wadala T T police. Police said Shenadarkar used a bedsheet as the noose. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
According to Sion Hospital dean Suleman Merchant, Shenadarkar was doing a one-year bond service with the hospital’s pathology department. Though police claimed that the arguments between Shenadarkar and her husband were minor, her colleagues said she was having ‘certain issues’ with her husband.
Shenadarkar had completed her MBBS from the Government Medical College in Ahmedabad and later pursued MD in pathology from Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural (SRTR) Medical College in Ambajogai. She was then posted at Sion Hospital to complete her bond service.
Police have registered a case of accidental death.
