Mumbai teen ‘harassed’ by boy on social networking site commits suicide

Girl’s father told police that a 16-year-old boy was stalking her for the past few days.

A 14-year-old girl committed suicide at her Kandivli home Tuesday evening after being allegedly harassed and stalked by a boy on a social networking website,police said. The girl was a student of class IX,police said.

The girl’s mother said in her statement that her daughter was studying in her room. At 6 pm,when she knocked on the door,she did not get any response. She called her husband,who broke open the door to find the girl hanging from the ceiling fan.

“We have sent the body for postmortem,” said Harishchandra Pimple,senior inspector,Kandivli police station.

The girl’s father told police that a 16-year-old boy had been harassing her for the past few days.

He alleged he had taken his daughter to the police station four days back to lodge a complaint. However,the police was not willing to file a complaint,he said.

“We have identified the boy and will question him,” said Pimple.
