At least two of the accused belong to a state political party
THE MUMBAI police Monday arrested six persons for allegedly abducting a man and demanding Rs 10 lakh ransom for releasing him. At least two of the accused belong to a state political party.
An officer said that the incident took place on Monday around 10.30 am near the Bank of India branch at Fort in South Mumbai, where the complaint’s company provided house-keeping staff to the bank.
There had been some unrest among the staff after one of the housekeeping staff had been removed from work by the complainant after complaints from the bank.
The sacked staffer is alleged to have approached the main accused Sujay Thombre who is part of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) labour union.
The main accused along with five others allegedly came to the bank on Monday and started threatening the supervisor who worked for the complainant’s company. They allegedly beat him up as well.
Following this when the complainant’s father Pandurang More, who was present at the spot intervened, they forcibly made him sit in their Mahindra Thar vehicle and left.
The accused told the supervisor that they were taking More to the MNS union office in Dadar. They allegedly then demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh for his release.
The complainant then approached the Azad Maidan police station where an FIR was registered.
Several police teams were formed and within a few hours More was released and six persons were placed under arrest on charges of abduction. The six were produced before the court and remanded to police custody.
