Linking MTHL and Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Rs 1,100 crore elevated corridor to be completed by Feb 2027

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, described the project as transformative, emphasising that it will reshape regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion, particularly on NH-348.

“By seamlessly integrating Atal Setu with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, we are ensuring efficient traffic dispersal and eliminating congestion at crucial junctions, particularly on NH-348, which carries a significant load of multi-axle container traffic from JNPT,” said Mukherjee.

The project being carried out by Gawar Construction Ltd at a cost of Rs 1102.75 crore, is scheduled for completion in February 2027. At present, excavation work is under way, marking the beginning of this significant infrastructure development.

“This initiative is about reshaping the way people and businesses move between Mumbai and Pune. Professionals will be able to work in Mumbai while residing in Pune, significantly enhancing opportunities and quality of life,” said Mukherjee.

The elevated corridors, with a combined length of 4,958 metres in the Chirle section and 1,700 metres in the Palaspe section, will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, making the region more accessible and boosting economic growth.

This visionary infrastructure development will strengthen Maharashtra’s position as an economic powerhouse and accelerate growth in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as per the MMRDA.
