According to police sources, on Saturday afternoon, the girl, whose family lives on the 12th floor of the apartment complex, had gone to the ground floor to collect prasad from a puja organised in the building compound.
The accused constable, who lives on the sixth floor of the building, followed the girl. When she was heading back home after taking the prasad, the accused did not allow her to take the elevator and directed her to take the staircase instead, the complaint stated.
He then allegedly held her hands and took her to the first floor where a person from the building spotted him and alerted the girl’s family. Following a complaint filed by the girl’s parents, the police checked the CCTV footage and verified the allegations, following which they registered a case against the constable and arrested him immediately, another police source said.
The accused has been booked under sections 74 (criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
The police refused to divulge further details saying that it was a sensitive case and the investigation is on.
Last month, police constables Hemant Kapse and Chandrashekhar Darade, both attached to the Local Arms Division of the Mumbai police, were arrested along with two others for allegedly kidnapping and extorting money from a shopkeeper in Andheri.
