Versova Virar Sealink may extend upto Palghar

The proposed Versova Virar Sealink which is now with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) likely to extend further up to Palghar. Since the sea link was proposed previously only till Virar therefore now MMRDA will carry out a pre-feasibility study of the extended portion moreover, there is a plan to have access controlled sea link from Virar to Palghar, said the official.

Sealink was earlier with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) however, later the project was transferred to MMRDA. Presently, the MSDRC is carrying the Bandra Versova Sealink project which is under construction and is at snail's speed. It has already constructed the city's first sea link Worli -Bandra of 5.8km which was opened to traffic in 2009.

Mumbai to experience unseasonal rainfall for next 3-4 days

Several regions across Maharashtra are expected to experience unseasonal rainfall over the next 4 to 5 days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD has attributed the untimely rains to an amalgam of moisture build up and low pressure. Sushma Nair, a scientist from the IMD explained on Wednesday, "There is moisture building over the low lying areas, thanks to the easterlies blowing into the region." She further added, "There is also a north south trough because of which there is high possibility of unseasonal rainfall across various regions of Maharashtra over the next 4 to 5 days'',

Meanwhile, a warning has also been issued for some parts of central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Southern Konkan which are expected to witness light rains accompanied by lightning and thundering.

The IMD has also predicted hail storms across several places of Southern Maharashtra and Southern Marathwada.

Court allows Venugopal Dhoot to complete bail formalities without physical presence as he is in hospital

A SPECIAL court in Mumbai permitted Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot to complete part of his bail conditions without his personal presence noting the 'peculiar and extraordinary' situation of his health. Dhoot was arrested in December by the CBI in connection with the ICICI-Videocon loan case. His lawyers also submitted a medical report where it is mentioned that he is not fit to travel and is under medical supervision. "There is no reason to disbelieve the submission and medical certificate. The court also issued a show-cause notice to the jail superintendent as the cash bond part of Dhoot's release from jail did not have his signature.

Amit Shah’s ‘Bihar model’ can hold lessons for Maharashtra politics, say poll pundits

Addressing a public rally in Bihar’s Nawada district, Union Home Minister Amit Shah Monday declared that the BJP’s doors were permanently closed for Nitish Kumar and Janata Dal (United) president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh. While making these bold assertions, Shah claimed that more than half of JD(U) MPs and MLAs were ‘knocking’ the BJP’s doors. Therefore, he subtly implied that the BJP will welcome JD(U) MPs and MLAs willing to switch sides with the exception of two top leaders – Nitish Kumar and Lalan Singh.

Shah’s public pronouncement is a well-planned move and the message is not just confined to the BJP’s estranged alliance partner JD(U) but is also directed towards Uddhav Thackeray’s outfit in Maharashtra, observed some political pundits. In the context of Maharashtra, it can mean that the BJP’s doors will be closed for Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray and MP Sanjay Raut. Shubhangi Khapre reports
