Mumbai Live highlights: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, his mother and sister have tested positive for Covid-19, news agency ANI reported. Thackeray and his sister have been admitted to Lilavati Hospital.
Meanwhile, the additional chief metropolitan magistrate, while rejecting Kangana Ranaut’s plea seeking to transfer the defamation proceedings against her before another judge, said that merely because a judge is following legal procedure does not mean that he is biased against her. The court also said that Ranaut’s allegations are vague, without any reasonable apprehensions and if the case is transferred, it would affect the morale of the presiding officer.
On the virus front, Maharashtra recorded 1,632 new covid-19 cases, slightly up from a day ago, and 40 fresh fatalities on Friday, while 1,744 patients recovered from the infection in the state. Eight out of 36 districts did not report any fresh case. There are now 24,138 active cases in the state, while the coronavirus recovery rate stands at 97.46 per cent.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has summoned actor Ananya Pandey again on Monday for a third round of questioning in the cruise ship drugs case. Accompanied by her actor-father Chunky Pandey, Ananya visited NCB office on Thursday and Friday to record her statement in connection with the arrest of Aryan Khan whose bail hearing was put off by the Bombay High Court on Thursday till October 26.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old security guard fell to his death from a balcony on the 19th floor of a 61-storey residential building in central Mumbai after a major fire broke out there on Friday, officials said. The Fire Brigade rescued sixteen other stranded persons. The incident took place at the city’s luxury Avighna Park society.
