The Mumbai police have arrested a man for allegedly pushing aspiring actors into prostitution rackets by promising them roles in movies. The police have rescued two girls.
The accused, a resident of Mira Road, was booked for trafficking and sections under Pocso and Juvenile Justice Acts since the victims were minors.
An officer said based on a tip-off, a police team reached a Borivali hotel where one of their informants posed as a customer interested in the services provided by the accused.
Once the informant finished negotiations with the accused, he hinted to the police team in plain clothes after which they arrested the accused.
The officer added, “the victims told us that the accused claimed to have good contacts in the film industry and frequently dropped big names. Once he gained the victim’s trust as someone who could get them a big break, he started exploiting them.”
