Mumbai MLA Zeeshan Siddique and actor Salman Khan received fresh threats from a 20-year-old man from Noida, the police said, adding that the accused who wanted to extort money from the duo has been arrested.

The police identified the accused as Gurphan Khan and said that the threat message was received on the mobile number that Siddique uses for receiving complaints from the general public.

The Nirmal Nagar police in Mumbai’s Bandra (East) lodged an extortion case on Monday and acting on the complaint, the Crime Branch Monday arrested Khan, who allegedly sent the message from his mobile number on October 25. The message threatened Siddique and included death threats to him and Salman Khan.

Siddique contacted the Mumbai police after the staff at his Bandra (East) office informed him about the message. Based on the complaint filed by a member of Siddique’s staff, Ritesh More, the Nirmal Nagar police registered an FIR against the mobile user. A case was registered under sections 308(2), 308(5), and 351(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the accused was traced to Noida.

A preliminary probe has revealed that he sent the threat messages to extort money, a police officer said, adding that the accused would be produced before court on Tuesday.

Siddique’s father, former MLA and minister Baba Siddique, was gunned down on October 12 in Bandra (East), allegedly by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The Mumbai police have so far arrested 15 members of the gang.

Baba Siddique was known for throwing Bollywood celebrity Iftar parties and Salman Khan is known for his proximity to the Siddique family. Khan has been on the hit list of the Bishnoi gang for a long while and gang members even opened fire in front of his house in Bandra (West) in April this year.
