Three persons were arrested Thursday for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 29-year-old man. While the police had initially registered a missing person complaint after Vijay Bhoir, a businessman from Kalyan went missing on August 23, they found his body buried next to a graveyard in Titwala.
The complainant, Bhoir’s brother Ravindra, told Khadakpada police, where the missing complaint was registered, that he suspected one Rafiq, a tenant in Bhoir’s building, of being involved in his disappearance.
The Thane Crime Branch received a tip-off about a person Akshay Bhoir (20) being involved in the crime. During interrogation, Bhoir told the police that he, along with Rafique had killed Bhoir at the behest of one Ravi Thakre.
Akshay told the police that the plan to murder Bhoir had been hatched over a month ago. Accordingly, Rafique took a flat next to Bhoir’s on rent and befriended him. A month after their acquaintance, Rafique invited Bhoir to a friend’s house in Titwala to consume alcohol. Bhoir accepted the invitation . “After getting Bhoir drunk, Akshay and Rafique attacked him with choppers and murdered him,” said an officer. The duo, along with the other wanted accused, then dug a pit near a graveyard in Titwala where they buried the body.
The police have arrested Akshay, Shaikh and Thakre. DCP (Crime) Parag Manere said, “Thakre planned the killing at the behest of someone else. We have the custody of the accused till September 16 and we will grill them about the person.”
