A 14-year-old boy was found hanging from the shower in his bathroom late on Tuesday, the police said.

Police officers who confirmed that it appeared to be a case of suicide said no motive was clear yet. Senior Police Inspector of Park Site police station Rajendra Kulkarni said investigations were still on.

Khalid Shahid Khan was a resident of Islampura in suburban Mumbai’s Vikhroli area. He reportedly went in the bathroom to take a shower around 9.30 pm, not long after watching television.

His mother Shabnam had taken his sister to a nearby hospital leaving Khalid with an aunt at their home. As the boy used to take long showers, his aunt did not suspect anything. Later, when his father returned home and did not get any response after calling out to him, he broke down the door to find his son hanging from the shower by a rope used to dry clothes.

He reportedly breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

A student of Sandesh High School, Khalid was currently appearing for his class VII final exams.

Khalid had a ventricular septal defect (a defect in the wall separating the chambers of the heart). Owing to his medical condition, his family hardly ever left him alone. Relatives said in fact this was the reason that his teachers and parents never raised their voice on him. He fared well in his academics and was liked by all, said his friends.
