The WR has added 10 new services and extended 122 others.

Commuters on the Western Line expressed dissatisfaction over the new time-table that came into effect on Thursday on the suburban line, complaining against change in platforms of trains and WR’s decision to remove stoppages of trains at several stations.

In the new time-table, the WR has added 10 new services and extended 122 others. While the route of 56 services have been changed, the number of stoppages of 26 trains have been reduced to make the services faster.

At Jogeshwari station, commuters staged a protest and submitted letters to the station master, complaining against the move to remove the halts of four trains at the station. “The Western Railway always messes up with the time-table at Jogeshwari station. These are four crucial services and commuters will be hassled if the trains don’t stop at the station. Also, in the new time-table, we will have to use another platform reserved for trains on the Western Harbor line,” Mansoor Umer, who has been commuting to Churchgate for 40 years, said.

A senior WR official said, “For commuters of Jogeshwari, 12 services are available on the Harbor corridor for Churchgate. An equal number of services are also available for Goregaon from Churchgate. Some services had to be sped up to increase the number of services on the WR. While suggestions are welcome, it cannot be a win-win situation for all.”

Shaheeda Fernando, a regular commuter on the WR, said, “Due to the extension of the ladies special service till Virar station, we are facing more crowd while boarding the train at Vasai.”

Commuters using the AC local on the WR also complained against the change in platform. Ashish Pathare, who regularly travels on the AC local, said, “There was total chaos at Borivali railway station today. They have changed the platform of the AC train from number 3 to 4. As we form queues at platform 3, we were caught unawares and had to run to platform 4. Platform 4 has less space to form queues to board the local, so the railways must work on the issue.”

Sanjay Mishra, divisional railway manager, WR, said, “We have added up to 80 services at Jogeshwari station which will offer seating space to more commuters. We have also sped up many train services, which will improve punctuality.”
